According to the layout of a theme, there are two types of the navigation menu. One is the Horizontal Navigation Menu Bar and the other is Sidebar Navigation Menu Bar. Creating Your WordPress Website Navigation Menu (A Step By Step Guide)

In most of the cases, you can make use of the menu manager tool of WordPress. It is a part of the WordPress core. You can access it from the admin area of your WordPress dashboard.

Let’s see how you can create a navigation menu and design it with all the proper qualities that are needed.

l  Creating A Menu

Usually, it depends on your website and your WordPress theme that you are using. It is a possibility that your current WordPress theme already has a menu. If you still want a new menu for your website, then you can create it easily.

You just need to click “create a new menu link”. First, give your menu a name. Try to keep the name of your menu that has relevance to your website. Then hit the button that says, “Create Menu”. As your menu is created, you now need to provide navigation option to your menu to make it helpful for your visitor and your business/blog.

l  Add & Remove Items In A Menu

You can link your published posts to your menu. Anyways, you can easily add and remove items from a menu by simply selecting the items from the side panels on the left side and clicking ‘Add to Menu’.

If you want to add posts to your menu, then you can showcase those items on Screen Options tab. This tab is located on the top right corner of the screen. Now from the screen option, you can choose what type of content you want to display in your menu. You will have a better idea, once you add few items there.

l  How To Add Custom Links?

Custom links such as links to your other websites, social media profiles, and pages, or any external links are sometimes the best thing you might not want to miss in your website’s navigation menu. In order to add external links, follow my lead here,

First, click on the Links panel on the left side of the screen. Then, you need to enter the address of the link you want to add. Also, you need to give a proper title to the link. After this, when you click on add to the menu button, the link will be added to your navigation menu. This is the best way to get more traffic to your other websites as well.

l  Organizing The Menu Structure

Once you have added some of the items, you need to organize them in the order that you think is perfect for your visitor. In order to improve the user experience, you need to keep your menu organized. In WordPress, it is as easy as dragging and dropping items.

As a precaution, you need to understand that the first item and the last item gets most of the attention. So, it might be a good idea to place your promoting items in that places. The first & the last.

l  A Multi-Level Drop Down Menu

While designing your navigation menu, providing some space to breath is always beneficial. In order to do that you can always offer your visitor a multi-level drop-down menu. This effect is always very easy with WordPress. You can simply drag and drop the menu options in the nested space to provide your visitors a drop-down navigation menu.

When you are doing that, you can easily increase your user experience. Not just that, you will also cater your users better usability, however, the key point of success here is you just need to go one level deep in the multi-level drop-down navigation menu.
